Washington, D.C.- Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) released the following statement on passage of the Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans Act:
"As any solider knows, the emotional scars of war can often be just as difficult as physical injuries. While serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, I saw many examples of heroism, bravery, and valor in my fellow troops. But I also saw firsthand the pain and anguish that comes with post-traumatic stress. Nearly 6 years later, some of these men and women are still struggling.
"But today the Senate passed important legislation that will increase access to high-quality mental health care for our troops. And it will ensure that those who are struggling with post-deployment readjustment don't go through it alone. This bill is an important step forward in the battle against post-traumatic stress and I urge President Obama to sign it immediately."
