Washington, D.C.— Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today released the following statement in response to reports that President Obama won't meet with the new head of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, during his visit to Washington, D.C. this week:
"NATO invoked Article 5 following the attacks of September 11th for the first time in the history of the alliance. And our friends in NATO have continued to stand by our side in the fight against radical Islam around the world. Now, given the growing threats faced by some of those same allies in eastern Europe, it's unconscionable President Obama has neglected to meet with NATO's new Secretary General. I urge him to meet with Secretary General Stoltenberg immediately and reaffirm the United States' support for the organization. With the threats of Russian aggression and radical Islam, now is not the time to be putting distance between the United States and our important security partners in NATO."
