Washington, D.C. - Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today released the following statement on the Supreme Court's decision to hear Virginia Uranium, Inc. v. Warren, concerning Virginia's ban on uranium mining, which runs afoul of federal law:
"Our ability to produce nuclear energy is a matter of national security, and so federal law preempts any state-based efforts to prohibit uranium mining. Deeply concerned about this case's national-security implications, my colleagues and I filed an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to overturn the Fourth Circuit's misguided decision to let Virginia's mining ban stay in place. I'm pleased to see the Court has agreed to hear the case."
