Washington, D.C.- Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today released the following statement on the death of former Russellville Mayor Phil Carruth:
"Tonight I join all Arkansans in mourning the death of former Russellville Mayor and City Councilman Phil Carruth. Growing up just over the bridge from Russellville, it's difficult to put into words the impact Phil had on our community and our state. After years as a leading figure in Arkansas's poultry industry Phil turned his attention to local government; serving as the Mayor of Russellville and later several terms on the City Council. He was committed to making Russellville, Pope County, and the entire River Valley a better place. Phil was also a trailblazer for Republicans in Arkansas. It was his commitment and dedication that helped transform our state party into what it is today.
"Above all, Phil was a man of faith and family. He was a dedicated, loving husband to his wife, Phyllis, and father to their four children Phil Jr., Jim, Lana, and Lisa. And anyone who met Phil knows he was very much enjoying his latest job: doting grandfather to his many grandchildren. Tonight my thoughts and prayers are with the Carruth family and all of Russellville. In their grief, may they take comfort in knowing Phil made Arkansas a better place for us all."
