Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today released the following statement applauding NASA's decision to award the University of Arkansas at Little Rock two grants for research and development and the opportunity to test research aboard the International Space Station:

"It's a point of pride for our state that the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is leading the way in such innovative research. I applaud the researchers for all their hard work. They make our state proud."

Background: Today NASA announced that 22 universities across the country were awarded grants for research and technology development projects in areas critical to the agency's mission. The following projects at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock received funding:

  • Bio-Inspired polytetrafluoroethylene-Based Solid Lubricant Coatings on Nickel-Titanium for Space Mechanisms and Aerospace Applications (one of 13 universities that will receive as much as $750,000 over a three year period).
  • Arkansas CubeSat Agile Propulsion Technology Demonstrator Mission (one of nine universities that will receive approximately $900,000 and an opportunity to conduct research and technology development aboard the International Space Station)
