Washington, D.C. - Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) released the following statement on Memorial Day:
"Every Memorial Day, I'm reminded of my time as a funeral escort in the Army's Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery, accompanying fallen comrades to a final resting place in those rolling hills. We rehearsed funerals well in advance, sometimes for days, because we wanted those men and women-and their loved ones-to receive one last, perfect moment of honor.
Memorial Day allows our whole country to share in those moments of honor and consolation. We remember the many brave Americans who loved their country and fellow citizens so deeply that they were willing to die for them. Contemplating the weight of their sacrifice fills us with great solemnity. But we also ought to feel a rush of conviction to emulate their service by preserving our nation and making it better however we can."
