Washington, D.C. - Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today released the following statement on the new U.S. intermediate-range missile included in the National Defense Authorization Act:

"We signed the INF treaty in good faith with the Soviet Union and abided by it for many years, until Vladimir Putin tore it up. Adhering to a unilateral treaty is unilateral disarmament, plain and simple. The U.S. can't stand idly by while Moscow points missiles at American troops and our allies - missiles that could deliver nuclear weapons, no less. This new program of record for a ground launched cruise missile will warn the Russians to honor their agreements. If they return to compliance, it will be money well spent. If they do not, we've taken the first step to a proper response from NATO. Moscow must be held to account for the INF treaty's demise."
