Washington, D.C. - Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today released the following statement on the president's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel:
"The president has rightly acknowledged the plain truth that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, as it has always been, and the only way to secure a just and lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians is to build upon a foundation of truth. Twenty-two years ago, President Clinton signed into law a statute, passed with bipartisan support, that declared Jerusalem the capital of Israel. Even so, Israel was the only country in the world whose capital the State Department refused to recognize. Today's decision corrects this glaring discrepancy, and I'm glad to see President Trump right this wrong."
