Washington, D.C.- Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today released the following statement on Taiwan's general elections:

"I congratulate the people of Taiwan on another free and fair election, and I congratulate Dr. Tsai Ing-wen on her electon to be Taiwan's next president. When I traveled to Taiwan recently, I had an in-depth discussion with Dr. Tsai about the enduring interests and values shared by the United States and Taiwan. I am confident that our peoples will continue to work closely to ensure Taiwan's security, expand trade, and promote regional cooperation across the Pacific region. I personally will continue to strengthen the faithful implementation of the Taiwan Relations Act and the United States's commitment to peace across the Taiwan Strait and to the security of the Taiwanese people. Taiwan continues to be an example of what is possible when government responds to the will of the people, protects fundamental rights, and fosters a dynamic free-market economy."
