Washington, D.C.- Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today released the following statement after the 34th Democratic Senator Announced Support for the Iran Deal:

"I am disappointed that 34 of my Democratic colleagues have chosen to support this dangerous deal. They bowed to White House pressure and put partisan politics ahead of national security and their constituents. The consequences of this decision cannot be overstated and the American people will not soon forget their votes.

"What's worse is they may not even get the opportunity to cast that vote. From the beginning, it's been clear to many that President Obama didn't want this agreement to be considered with the scrutiny and seriousness of a treaty. That's why the Congress passed a bill to allow the House and Senate at least a passing chance to weigh in on the matter. At the time, my colleagues on the other side of the aisle supported the bill and the opportunity for some type of Congressional oversight. But now Senator Reid is threatening to filibuster the resolution and deny the American people-through their representatives in the legislative branch-an opportunity to even have their voices heard. This is unacceptable.

"On a matter so critical to national security-one which people on both sides of the debate acknowledge will have generational impacts-blocking the Senate from voting on a resolution would be an insult to our constitutional system and a black mark on the institution. Senator Reid is of course used to protecting this president's legacy and hiding behind Senate procedure. But I'm hopeful that my colleagues in the Senate will afford this debate and the resolution of disapproval the seriousness it deserves and let us move swiftly to a vote. While the president's media apologists and hardcore liberal defenders in Congress may be claiming victory, the American people still deserve their say. In fact, as the president's supporters have made public their positions, I would note that they recognize the importance of a final vote. On that, we agree."

Sen. Mikulski (D-MD): "For these reasons, I will vote in favor of this deal."

Sen. Casey (D-PA): "I will vote to support the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action…"

Sen. Coons (D-DE): "[M]y vote is my vote, and I'm responsible for it."

Sen. Merkley (D-OR): "Therefore, when the Senate debates the Iran agreement after Labor Day, I will vote to support it."

Sen. Reid (D-NV): "I will vote no on the resolution of disapproval and urge my colleagues to do the same."
