Washington, D.C. - Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) and Congressman Mike Gallagher (R-Wisconsin) today released the following statement after the Department of Defense shared a list of companies operating in the United States that are owned or controlled by the Chinese military. The publication of the list follows a September 2019 letter where Cotton and Gallagher, along with Senator Chuck Schumer (D-New York) and Congressman Ruben Gallego (D-Arizona), urged Secretary of Defense Mark Esper to use all available statutory authorities to combat the Chinese Communist Party's espionage against the U.S. defense-industrial base.

"We commend the Department of Defense for releasing this list of Chinese military companies operating in the United States and hope more will soon follow. This report is one piece of a broader campaign our nation must wage against the Chinese Communist Party and its parasitic technology transfer efforts. We urge the President to impose economic penalties against these Chinese military firms. Meanwhile, Congress should update this 1999 law to better address the present-day challenges posed by China's Military-Civil Fusion strategy."
