Washington, D.C. - Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today released the following statement after the Trump Administration formally notified Congress of its intent to proceed with a sale of 66 F-16s to Taiwan:

"Today the United States upheld its commitments under the Taiwan Relations Act. Taiwan is a vital democratic partner and these arms sales are critical in their defense against Chinese Communist Party aggression. I applaud the administration for reestablishing regular arms sales to Taiwan after decades of delays from previous administrations. In the coming months, the Congress will work with our Taiwanese partners and the Department of Defense to ensure that we transfer mobile and survivable systems that will effectively deter the People's Liberation Army."
